What’s Left for 2012?

Well, we’ve got four more months left of 2012. I will have to say, this year has probably been the most LiFe-cHaNgiNg and iNteResTing one yet! Doug and I took our first vacation without the kids (to Hawaii) in February, I’ve read a couple awesome books, we decided to MOVE our house in April, made Osage County our new home in June, reached my goal weight after 10 years, and we sent our little girl off to kindergarten in August!

It is easy this time of year to throw in the towel and push off our LiVe-It Lists (aka New Year’s Resolutions) until next year. But that wouldn’t be “Living It” now would it? It would be a shame to waste away the next few months because we haven’t accomplished what we wanted in the last eight. I’m here to give you a little boost (because I need it too) and get you excited about what the rest of the year has to offer! You have the ChoiCe on whether or not your 2012 will be a memorable one and it is not too late!

Today I want you to make a new list. Narrow it down to the things that are really iMpoRtaNt. Don’t get overwhelmed with all the little things you have to do. Instead, PiCk One (or two) things that would be realistic to accomplish in the rest of 2012 and start chipping away at it. Maybe your house needs de-cluttered….the fall is a good time to have a garage sale! Maybe you want are feeling burnt out at work…now would be the time to uTiLizE your vacation days if you have a few to spare. Be creative, but most importantly, do something that is going to impact your 2012 in a positive way!

Happy List-Making!

Back to Reality

Last week I tagged along with Doug as he had a conference on the Big Island of Hawaii! We had a really great time! The hardest thing about coming back from a trip like that (or a spiritual weekend retreat) is that you immediately are faced with REALITY. It is so easy to have all of these wonderful plans, thoughts and ideas of how you want things to be when you return and the BAM you are faced with sick kids, bills, work, etc.

Doug and I discussed this dilemma. During our vacation we read a couple of books that imPacTed our lives greatly. We knew that coming back would be hard because it is much easier to have your priorities in order when relaxing on vacation. Living a week without a time schedule and work makes life so siMple….but unfortunately that is not reality!

So what do I do? My best advice is to suRroUnd yourself with people who support your new way of thinking. If you can’t find support right away then jot down your ideas on paper to serve as reminders. Place those thoughts on a bulletin board or in areas of the house that you will stumble across during the day to help hold you aCcouNtable. Realistically, even those ideas will only last temporarily and the realness of your day-to-day routine will try to take over. This will be an ongoing process, but no reason to give up entirely. Continue to search for ways to keep you on track and, if all else fails, schedule another getaway (like a day without kids or distractions) in the next 6 months that will allow you to regroup your thoughts!

I’m Not There

Do you ever read our posts or talk to someone and think, I am NOT feeling it or I am NOT there?  I have moMenTs like that. Someone may share with me their weight loss journey or new cleaning routine, and in my mind I’m thinking how exercise and cleaning are the last things on my mind right now!

We all need time to shut off our mind now and then.  Often times the bEsT mEdiciNe is taking a break from it all!  Can I hear an “Amen!”?  There are days I need silence.  No to-do lists, no challenges, and no radio or phones ringing in the background.  I just need to escape.

Your escape may be as short as an afternoon, or in certain areas of your life, it may be for months or years.  The good thing about being surrounded by people/things that inspire you is that they are there when you are ready to tackle the world again.  We can’t escape forever, but after we catch our breath, the resources for a pOsiTive outlook on life will be there to greet us when we are ready.  Better yet, these resources may be a pleasant surprise and assist you in an area of your life when you least expect!

So if you are currently on a getaway, know that you are weLcoMe on our sofa anytime.  We are happy to have someone to share our thoughts with and completely understand if you aren’t quite there yet :)

Money Doesn’t Grow On Trees

{Subscribers–if your email link did not work today, we apologize.  Tomorrow it should be back up and running!}

Our family is planning a BiG trip to Disneyworld this summer!  It will be the first visit for both of my children and we can’t wait to see the excitement on their faces as they meet their favorites…Tinkerbell and Mickey Mouse!  With a big trip like this comes a BIG price tag.  I don’t want my kids thinking you show up to Disneyworld and say, “HeRe I Am!”  I want them to understand that our family has worked hard to save and plan for such a special trip.

Like many kids, mine have so many toys they don’t know which one to play with first.  For upcoming holidays and birthdays I have asked my family to give my children Disney gift cards instead of toys.  I bought each of them a small Disney sandwhich keeper at my local dollar store and my kids now use them to save all of their “DiSNeY MoNeY.”  Between Halloween and Thanksgiving they already have a nice collection of gift cards from family and any money they got from trick-or-treating went into their sandwich keepers too.

We’ve been discussing different things they can use their “Disney money” on when go on our trip such as souveniers, special snacks, extra activites, etc.  As young as my children are they are really understanding why they are saving their “Disney money” and it makes me happy to know that they are learning such a ValUAbLe lesson so early in life!

Funky Vacation

This week I’ve been in a “funk” that I can’t seem to kiCk.  Do you ever have those?

We’ve talked or written many times about hitting the reStart button.  I’ve been trying to hit the restart button for days now and it has frustrated me because I wake up and my feelings haven’t chaNged.  I know the things I’m suppose to say, “Be positive…count your blessings…start new today…etc” but it isn’t always that

It’s ok to have down days every now and then. We occasionally need down days like these to help us appReciate the good days.  I guess you can relate it to taking a vacation…eventually it’s time to go hoMe and get back to norMal life :)

Vision Board-The Challenge (Wk 9)

To assist in making your dreams a reality, you must have a clear vision of what you want.  An easy and InSpiRinG way to document your goals is by creating a vision board.  Your vision board can include pictures, words, quotes or anything that depicts what you want to accomplish.  Do you want to improve your confidence? Hang a picture of a confident woman that you admire.  Want to be your own boss?  Display the words “SELF-EMPLOYEED“.

I recently made a VISION board for our entire family.  I actually used a picture that was hanging on the wall, took out the glass, flipped the backing to the front, and covered it with fabric!  It only took about 30 minutes and didn’t cost a penny!  Since our board hangs in a high-traffic area, we are reminded of our goals several times a day.  This helps us stay FOCUSED and motivated.  If my daughter sees something she wants in a magazine, we hang it on the board.  If we want to take a vacation, we post pictures of where we want to go.  Vision boards can be really fun!  Be creative!  You’ll be amazed at the number of things you’ll AccomplisH, all because you see it every day!!

Happy Dreaming!

Packing List

I don’t know about you, but one of my least favorite things about taking a trip is packing. It takes me a lot of time and preparation and I just don’t like it.    However, I know if I want to have the most enjoyable trip/vacation possible I need to be prepared.   The journey on your way to your dreams is no different.  It requires a packing list that looks something like this:

  • “S.M.A.R.T.” dream:

S– Specific (You have to know exactly what it is you are going after)

M– Measureable (You must be able to measure your dream by asking, “Did I achieve my dream?” and then be able to answer with a simple “Yes” or “NO”)

A– Achievable

R– Relevant (It is something that you really want)

T– Time Specific (When are you going to reach your goal – give a specific date.)

  • SUPPORT SYSTEM this includes resources such as books, motivational materials, friends, family and someone that you can be accountable to
  • TRACKING SYSTEM to track your progress using a journal or calendar
  • BELIEF that you can and will do it
  • RELENTLESS PURSUIT to see your dream come to pass – Determination and grit that refuses to quit
