Happy Father’s Day From Suede Sofa!!

The movie CoUrAgEoUs has really had an impact on Lara and I.  So much so, we are working our way through the book Courageous For Women together.  (Published by the writers of the movie. You can find a link to the book and movie at the end of this post.)  If you have not seen the movie and you asked me to sum it up in one sentence it would be:  Have the courage to do the right thing.

Although this movie focuses on fatherhood, having the ChArAcTeR to be courageous applies to all of us.

In what area do you need to step it up?  In your parenting?  In your marriage?  In your thought life?  In your diligence on the job?  In your faithfulness to others?  In your FaiThFuLnEsS to God?
I love this song from the movie and would like to DeDiCaTe it to all the fathers in my life – my dad, my husband, my father-in-law, the men who are like second dad’s to me and most of all, the Greatest Dad ever – who has left the perfect example of what a real Father is – Father God.
We at Suede Sofa wish you a wonderful Father’s Day!!
:) Robynn~

“Committing Your Goal To Paper” – The Challenge (Wk 5)

We’ve been talking about dreams & goals for a month now and hopefully you have something in mind that you would like to achieve.  Its now time to get that dream/goal down on paper.  That’s right, on paper.  I’ve heard and read on multiple occasions that there is a much greater likelihood of achieving your goal if you have it written down on paper and in front of you often.  When you do, it becomes a driving force in your life and a target to aim for.  Not only is it important to get your goal on paper, it is also important to assign a date that you would like to accomplish your goal by.  Are you ready to commit your dream to paper?  The following table will help you do just that.  Here are a few tips to help you complete the table:

  • Be as specific as possible
  • Try to include all the steps you will have to take to accomplish your goal.  Include things such as gathering information, researching on the internet, searching people out who have done what it is you want to do, etc.
  • Once you finish the table you will be asked to list your resources for fulfilling your goal and the obstacles that you will need to overcome.  Take some time to give this some thought.  Have a friend help you as they will be able to think of things that you might miss.

Robynn’s 6-Month Challenge….Peace With Food

Ok, so Lara and I talk about GeTtiNg ReAl and being TrAnSpArEnT.  Here goes. . .

Today, the S.u.e.d.e.S.o.f.a.  is beginning “The ChAlLeNgE”, a SiX-MoNtH jOuRnEy towards a goal or DrEaM.  I have a challenge of my own that I am going to be sharing with you during these next six months and here it is:  walking in PeAcE with food.  For years I have struggled with overeating resulting in the vicious cycle of gain weight, diet, lose weight, gain weight.  I have made a lot of progress, but still, I am not where I desire to be in this area of SeLf-CoNtRoL.

Although I have made great strides in this area, I desire not only to deal with this issue once and for all, but also to help others struggling in this area.  In the past, my focus has been a number on the scale, which really was just the symptom of an underlying problem.  However, this time around, I am focusing on the real issue – my ChArAcTeR and developing self-control.

My biggest challenge, when it comes to eating is consuming too much food early in the day.  I then either have to go through the rest of the day not able to eat, feeling deprived as I watch my family eat, OR I feel hopeless and just give in thinking, “What’s the point?”

My next biggest challenge is thinking that if I go over a little, I may as well blow it and go all out.  These are the two bad habits I will be focusing on replacing with the positive habits of using self-control and moderation.

So, how about you?  Do you have any goals or dreams you want to PuRsUe?  Any NeW hAbiTS you want to form?  If so, then come along with us.  The journey is a whole lot more EnJoYaBLe when taking it with a friend!!
