As we are approaching the warm weather I once again find myself having to deal with the excess weight that I have put on over the winter. Every year I say I am not going to gain weight during the winter, and every year I find myself in the same predicament. Last summer I reached my lowest weight since having my kids. I was so proud of my achievement, but did that stop me from over indulging during the month-long Christmas festivities…NO! Then once Christmas came and went there was New Years, the Super Bowl, and I can’t forget to mention my new obsession with Golden Oreos. I watched the numbers on the scale creep up until yesterday I realized I had put on a full 15 pounds since the summer and am once again miserable with what I see in the mirror when the clothes come off.
I decided to take out my camera phone and take 3 pictures of myself…front, back, and side views in my bathing suit. What I saw in the pictures was even worse than the image that had been staring at me in the mirror. As I said in a past weight loss post (Put On Your Big Girl Panties and Deal With It), to many friends and family members it may not seem like I need to lost weight, but I know that I can do better. Weight loss isn’t about how you look compared to other people, it is about how you feel about yourself.
Using my pictures as a starting off point, I am excited to get my butt in gear and start working towards the Robyn that I know I can be! With today being the first day of spring…NOW is as good a time as any to change the eating habits that have crept up through the cold. Any readers who can relate…GET OUT YOUR CAMERAS and let’s go!

As we all begin our New Years Resolutions I PrOmIsE you WilL NoT find me walking around with a shiny new gym membership. Ooooooooh no!!! You all know I couldn’t even follow through with The Lazy Girls Workout! Looking back on that post, maybe I was pushing myself with saying I was going to start out aiming to workout 3 to 4 times a week. If I had started with 1 to 2 and gradually added on maybe I would have stuck with it! Anyway…I’ll worry about toning in the spring and stick with these ReAlisTiC ReSoLuTiOnS that will benefit my entire family!
I found this while looking for cute winter crafts on Pinterest and realized these are all things that I need to do not only for my family, but for MySeLf! I spend way too much time trying to get everything done and need to focus more on the important things in life. They may seem simple, but they so often get overlooked and could be the difference in making your child’s day go from OK to OuTanDiNg!

This summer my family spent 9 AmAzInG days in Disney World. It was the first trip for my two kids and the second trip for my niece Taylor. With 3 kids ages 5 and under and my parents who toughed out the long days and heat…the fast pass system which can save you up to an hour and a half of waiting on lines is a NeCiSsItY. My sister was given 8 fast passes for the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror from one of the ride managers. If you haven’t been to Disney World, these two rides are located in the Hollywood Studios theme park and have an average wait time of at least an hour. Throughout the day our family used the passes that we wanted, but she still had a handful left over. Before we left the park, my sister decided to go to each ride and give out her fast passes to people who were waiting on the actual lines which as I said before were about an hour-long. She was met with SmiLeS, ThAnKs, and DisBeLiEf! One recipient said to her, “Thank you so much, I’ve done this for other people, but no one has ever done it for me…way to PAY IT FORWARD.”

Have you stayed focused on the goals you set for yourself to accomplish before the summer months hit? Are there areas you need to target as the weather warms up and the BBQ’s get grilling? I think we all start out with great intentions to succeed, but somehow LiFe just gets in the way of achieving our goals.
For me the struggle continues to be diet and exercise. I’m not going to lie…It’s been weeks since I wrote a post about starting The Lazy Girls Workout and this lazy girl has not worked out OnCe since that day. That is unless you count a few games of freeze tag around the yard with my son, but other than that…NoThInG!
I think when life gets too hectic to find time for ourselves or when we are finding it hard to get moving (in my case literally GeT MoViNg!) it is important to find things to use a motivators. For me it is going to be my new right out of the box Lands End bathing suit. Don’t give up on your goals…we all have time to get back in the GaMe!

So, what do you do if you’re Tom Osborne (the athletic director and former iconic University Of Nebraska Cornhusker football coach), you’re without a mens’ basketball coach, and looking for a coach with a proven history to build a basketball program? You hire someone who has turned around a handful of floundering basketball programs into thriving and nationally competitive teams. And that coach is Tim Miles. Can I hear a Go BiG ReD?
Tim happens to be a FriEnD of mine. We are from the same small town in South Dakota and I’ve been friends with his parents and siblings for years. So when my family vacationed in Colorado around the time he landed his last job at Colorado State University a few years back, we stopped by to say “Hi” and check out his new facilities. As we were catching up on his life and new coaching position, Scott and I asked him if he ever went back to South Dakota to hunt (a popular sport there – the pheasant, after all is South Dakota’s state bird and for good reason. There are tons of them!) or if he was able to do much snow skiing.
Tim’s answer was one I ReMemBer for a very long time. He told us that years ago, one of his basketball coaching mentors told him that he should “Pick one.” Either he should focus on coaching or let the coaching take 2nd fiddle to these other activities. This mentor understood the sacrifice it would take to be successful at the collegiate level. Smart man (and successful too).
If you are frustrated because you don’t feel like you are good at anything (or at least not as good at something as you would like to be) could it be that you are trying to be good at everything? Is it time to StReEmLiNe? Contrary to popular belief, you can’t have it all.
Take a look at the people you AdMiRe who are at the top of their game in any area of life. When you do, chances are you will discover they have embraced the “Pick One” principle as well. There’s nothing wrong with experimenting to see what works best for you. But to be successful, eventually you have to make a choice and PiCk OnE.

After New Years I cracked down and put a lot of time into meal planning and started working toward my weight watchers goal weight. As I’ve said before (to see my weight loss post click here) it isn’t like I had a lot of weight to lose, but the 10 to 15 pounds that creep up on me when I don’t watch make me feel miserable. A few weeks ago I reached my goal weight and was really excited until I realized that although I had reached goal, I hadn’t done one single thing to tone my body while I was losing the weight. I’m not sure if I thought the stretched tummy from carrying two pregnancies was MaGiCaLlY going to go away with the weight loss or what, but I can assure you…when the clothes come off…it’s still there!
Here’s the GiAnT problem…I HaTe working out. Walking, running, jogging, weight training, stretching, aerobics (do they even do that anymore?), kickboxing, yoga, stair-climbing, etc….I don’t want to do it! Strike that, I don’t even want to think about doing it! I realize that I could continue with my anti-exercise attitude and look good in my clothes, but bathing suit season is coming up and I would LoVe to look good in something other than the tankini with a skirt that I have been wearing since I had my son five years ago.
In comes The Lazy Girls Workout. While searching Pinterest last night I came across a simple workout for BeGiNnErS. It was the first time I thought…Wow, I might actually be able to do this! I’m not making any promises and I’m starting out slow (3 or 4 days a week), but at least it is something! If you are like me and just can’t get motivated to get moving, find something you think you can do in moderation and set a small goal for yourself. Together we can get in shape!

When it comes to potential, we all are sittin’ on a GoLdMiNe. God has placed incredible potential in every single one of us. Don’t believe me? Then you probably haven’t dug deep enough. Because trust me, it’s there.
I think most of us know this is true. If that is the case, then why are so many people not developing their potential and mining their ReSoUrCeS? I may be wrong, but I think one of the #1 reasons people don’t develop their potential is because they wish they were sittin’ on someone else’s goldmine. They wished they had the resources that somebody else possessed: looks, talents, gifts, personality, disposoition, life circumstances, etc.
In elementary school they have a saying, “You GeT what you GeT and you don’t throw a fit.” Well, that saying can apply to us grown up folk, as well. It is what it is. You’ve got what you’ve got. Now, what are you gonna do with it?
