Most Valuable Player

A month or so ago I had the opportunity to speak to a group of CoLLeGe students about following their DrEaM and fulfilling their PoTeNtiaL.  I took this trophy along and told them how I had wanted so badly to be named the MoSt VaLuAble PlaYer in BaSkeTbAll my senior year of high school.  Instead, on awards night, I took home the “BeSt DeFeNsE” trophy.  Defense always was my best asset.  Still, it was a disappointment, even though I knew that award of Most Valuable rightly belonged to another PlAyEr.

The point I made by bringing this trophy along for my talk was that each person is the “Most Valuable ____________ (Fill in YoUr NaMe in the  blank)” there is.  There never has and never will be another person with the combination of GiFtS, TaLeNtS, teMpeRmEnt, and PerSonAlity that you have.

The question is:  are you the best “YoU” that you can be or are you trying to be someone else?  We do a lousy job of trying to be someone else, but when we fulfill our potential we become a truly UnIqUe oRiGinAl.  If you are looking at others wishing you were more like them in LoOks, pErsOnaLity, tAleNts, etc, LeT iT Go!  You were created for a unique PuRpoSe.  There will NEVER be another you, so sit back, EnJoY yourself and take a load off your ShoUldErs wishing you were someone else!!

Do What You Love – The Challenge (Wk 16)

What do you LoVe to do so much that you could do for the ReSt of your LiFe and you would do it for FrEe?  Chances are your PuRpOsE in life is hiding behind that question. 

When searching for your purpose look for the things that you are pAsSioNate about.  What do you love to do?  

That’s not to say you should only do things that you love, especially if you are trying to figure out what your purpose is.  There are numerous stories of successful people who didn’t realize initially what their passion was.  Instead, they just took advantage of an opportunity and Voi-La!   The passion surfaced. 

You’ve probably heard the saying that it’s easier to to “StEeR a mOviNg car vs. a PaRkEd one”.  Maybe it is time to get moving and volunteer, take a class, pick up a new hobby, change careers or take advantage of an OpPorTuNity that has been presented to you. 

If you’re looking for your passion get the car mOviNg and EnJoY the ride!

“Enjoy The Journey Because, You’re Gonna Miss This” – The Challenge (Wk. 2)

 

 

You’re gonna miss this

You’re gonna want this back

You’re gonna wish these days

Hadn’t gone by so fast

 

These are some good times

So take a good look around

You may not know it now

But you’re gonna miss this

 

     The above words are the chorus to country singer Trace Adkins’, “You’re Gonna Miss This”.  I’ll have to admit I get a little cHoKeD uP every time I hear this song or see the video.  It seems that we get so caught up in the future that many times we wish our lives away.

     It’s so easy as you set out to accomplish a dream or make your life better in some way to get too focused on the destination and not EnJoY tHe jOurNey.  I can speak from experience that I don’t always “stop and smell the rOsEs”.  Maybe your life is far from perfect and to be perfectly honest, a big mess.  Maybe you are eyeing some pretty big challenges or seemingly impossible dreams that will take some time to overcome or achieve.

     Remember this:  regardless of where you are on your journey, this is your OnE LiFe, the only one you get.  So take the time to enjoy the sWeeT PleAsuRes along the way because many of them are not permanent fixtures, but rather fleeting vapors.

     What are the simple pleasures in your life?  A dear fRieNd?  A job you love, but that doesn’t pay that great?  Good health?  Relationships with family and friends?  Your children?  I know for me, I it will be a sad day when those flip flops get put on the right foot (and between the right toes!) 100% of the time. 

     The point is that where ever you may be on your journey, if you look around you can see GoD’s liTtLe  bLeSsinGs.  Embrace them, enjoy them, and savor them, because some day, you’re gonna miss this.

P.S.  A book that I really like regarding this topic is, “Enjoying Where You Are On The Way To Where You’re Going”by author Joyce Meyer.  In it she specifically talks about enjoying our self, as imperfect as we are, while God is changing us.  Not an easy thing to do.
