{Yummy} Apple-Butter

Today I was HoPiNg to be in WeStOn, Missouri at their ApPLe CeLeBraTioN.  Weston is a quaint little pre-civil war town in the rolling hills of northwest Missouri with so much to offer.  I especially love their apple OrChArDs and PuMpKiN farms where you can pick your own apples and pumpkins.  The tractor-trailer ride to the pumpkin patch where my family visited had spectacular views of the RolliNg CoUnTry-SiDe!

Lara and I had wanted to take our families and make a day of it, but due to other obligations we were unable to go.  So, instead, I am going to share with you a recipe I came up with InSpIrEd by one of my visits there:  ApPLe-BuTtEr.  It is so YuMmY and EaSy!!  Weston’s Apple Celebration also InSpIrEd me to make ApPLe DuMpLiNgS which are also YuMmY and oh, so PrEtTy, but that’s another post for another day!!

I usually like to get my apples for my Apple-Butter from a nearby orchard, but this year I was unable to do so.  Instead I bought them from the store.  Because I love GrAnNy SmItH apples, those are the ones I chose.  This is a great recipe to make on a Saturday when you’re home hanging out with the family watching football!

{YuMmY} Apple-Butter Ingredients

  • 12 big apples
  • 2 cups sugar (use 1 cup if you want to cut out some sugar)
  • 1 Tablespoon Cinnamon
  • 1 stick butter  (you can omit this is you are wanting to cut down on fat)

Peel and core the apples and cut into small pieces.  Place in a CrOcKpOt.

Add the rest of the ingredients.

Place crockpot on high.  Stir occasionally.  In about 4-5 hours VoiLa!!

The apples will break down on their own as they cook.  When the Apple-Butter is finished I like to place them in jars, save one, and GiVe the rest away!!

{Artist Alley} Love It!!

I recently picked up these BiRdS at my town’s fall festival a.k.a. {ArTiSt AllEy}.  I had been looking for birds for my mantle but just hadn’t been real ThRillEd with what I had seen.  Boy, am I so glad that I waited and found these guys.  I love it that they are so UniQuE, colorful (the ones I had been looking at were a metal, bronzy color) and that they were made by an ArEa ArTisT who I know!

If you are looking for that “PeRfEcT sOmEtHiNg” for your space, consider choosing a local artist.  You may be able to find something unique and OriGiNaL!!

What Inspires Me – Magazines

I love magazines!!

It is a special treat for me to buy one and then carve out a time to enjoy diving in.  I love looking at the pictures, reading the interesting bits of information, and looking at the eye-catching titles and subtitles.  My favorite ones are those that deal with home & garden, women’s magazines that contain household tips and recipes, ones that contain interesting places, and magazines that are motivating and inspirational.  Any time I find something that jumps out at me I rip it out and put it in a basket.  From time to time I take these magazine pages out to enjoy once again.  I’ve even put some of these pages in plastic sheet protectors and then in a 3-ring binder.  As a result, I have compiled my own “magazine” chalk full of my favorite articles, photos, and covers!Tell us what inspires you by commenting below.  In doing so you will be eligible to win the magazines shown below.  Winner will be announced on Saturday, May 21, 2011.

Share your inspiration!
